Accepting 30

I had a birthday yesterday.   I was not particularly excited for this one.  Granted, thanks to a certain little boy the last birthday I really remember celebrating was three years ago I'm having a little trouble accepting what my age is.

I'm 30.

Anyone older than that is now rolling their eyes, but yeah 30 is kind of hitting me over the head.

When I was pregnant with Henry I struggled with many per-conceived ideas about where I was supposed to be in my life and reaching 30 drags up a lot of those thoughts for me.

Shouldn't I have a career from my college degree?

Shouldn't I have a bigger home?

Shouldn't I have more payed off on those loans?

Shouldn't I have more kids by now?

Shouldn't I have more accomplishments and fewer failures?

Needless to say I used to, and still have, many ideas of what 30 was supposed to look like in my life and that picture has drastically changed in the last few years.

But then I realize that I've spent way too much of the last 30 years worried about what others thought about me and how my life is supposed to look.  I spent most of my 20's not having a clue who  I was as a person.

So here's to my 30's.

I know that by the time I leave my 30's behind I'll have become a richer person in so many ways and I'm looking forward to living that to the fullest.

So here's to accepting 30.

I am going to rock my 30's.

  1. 1. Happy Birthday!

    2. As an expert at being 30, having been 30 for over two months now, I think I can say with all of the wisdom being this old brings that 30 is so much better than 20--and I don't feel nearly as old as my twenty year old self thought I would be at 30 :)

I too feel like I'm just hitting my stride at figuring out who I am as a person and who I want to be. I think 30 is going to be amazing!

  3. Happy Birthday!! You're a young thing, my dear, and a beautiful one, too. :)

Speaking from the very wise position of 37, I can say that I feel so much more comfortable in my own skin now than I ever did in my 20's. Even though my body is a little creakier than it was 10 years ago (in addition to a few other undesirable changes), the 30's are awesome. Rock on!

    1. Completely agree Kirsten - I'm also 37 and much more confortable with who I am now that I was even 3 or 4 years ago, never mind 7! :) As they say "The best is yet to come!"

      Happy birthday Molly!

As someone who is about to leave her 30's; you are off to a great start ~ have some fun, learn a little, love a lot and if you haven't yet listen to Tim McGraw's "In My Next Thirty Years"

  6. Molly you look beautiful! Is your hair really that dark now or is it a filter? I am a few months away from 30, but I am determined to make them a great decade. I spent too much of my teenage years and twenties worrying and trying to fit into a box. I am done with that and just want to further develop into the woman, mother, wife God intended me to be. Rock those 30s girl, I know I plan to!

    1. The filter makes it look a lot darker than it is - it's not bright red like it was in college, but not brunette eitehr. untouched photo - http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o515/Mollymakesdo/DSCF0391_zps5fba9d07.jpg

  7. Happy Birthday! It is funny the expectations we set for ourselves and how they vary - I turned 30 last week and have no kids nor do I own my home (yet - we are closing next month!). I have so many friends who are all at very different stages as we reach this milestone and some of us are regretting what we haven't done yet, but I think most of us (including me) are like you, happy to be here and excited about what's going to happen next!

  9. Oh wow! Happpy Birthday Molly!!!
I didn't roll my eyes. I sighed in remembrance. Yeah, I remember turning 30. Finally! I felt my age!
Now... I struggle at 48 (this month) with some of the same things as you.
Am I still young enough to GET A DEGREE?
Shouldn't I be further along in debt retirements...?
Why do we have such a big house? Maybe we need a smaller house?
Wonder why the kids haven't called?
Shouldn't I have more accomplishments and fewer failures?

I heard this song yesterday... "Blessings"

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CSVqHcdhXQ

and these words ring true for me:

‘Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears?
And what if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near?

What if trials of this life are your mercies in disguise?

    Molly, you DO rock 30!

  10. How wonderful!! Happy Birthday!!!

I turn 30 in June - just 3 days before my oldest turns 3. I'm looking forward to 30! I am healthier than I was in my 20's. I am so much happier than I was in my 20's as well. I definitely don't feel as old as I thought I would feel, haha. I, too, am working on not letting my fear of what others think about me take over my happiness. I am just getting comfortable in my skin. I wouldn't go back to 20 for anything...

    1. The more I think of it the better I feel about 30. There were certain years of my 20's that were great; 20 was great as was 22/23 and 27, but I wouldn't go back to 21/22 and 24-26 for the world!

  11. I turn 30 tomorrow, so I know just where you're coming from! Mostly, I just don't feel old enough to be 30, and I think it's because I assumed I would have accomplished more by this time, somehow. But I just try to think, if the next 30 are as good as the first were, I guess I can't complain! Happy birthday!

  14. 25 bothered me. I was a quarter of a century old and had so many thoughts similar to those you mentioned. But then I got over it and moved forward. That's when the fun began. Happy birthday!
